Artist’s Statement
Imagine yourself flying over a portion of the earth. Below, you see a patchwork of “lots” – distinct areas of sectioned landscape that contain their own history and their own memories. Imagine each “lot“ as a memorial that would allow us to rethink the idea of “fragility“. Imagine a space that could exist in different mediums and in multiples places.
This body of work provides situations that allow us to find a sense of belonging. I recreate territories that address issues relating to threatened habitats and ecosystems. They make us aware of the enormous loss of species and territory that is presently ocurring. Finally, their intent is to connect us with a sense of belonging, which will give us hope for what can be done to help preserve our space.
[Sanctuary] Protection and refuge in an unfamiliar space / [Iceberg] Land for others / [Rose of the Winds] The compass / [Underground] What is hiding beneath the earth and water? / [Mesa] Archeology at altitude . . .
I want to express the idea of union using simple forms and respecting natural materials. The Landscape transformations is the context and source of inspiration. The individual pieces are minimal in design. I merge simple elements that encourage the viewer to see and determine what is seen through unique spatial perspectives.
