Artist's Statement |
"Still: Paintings for Blanca" is a collection of works I've put together to pay homage to my late friend and mentor, Blanca Estela Lopez. Blanca was my painting instructor at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. She recently passed away on December 25, 2011 after a long battle with leukemia. Though I find it next to impossible to verbally express the depth of my reverence for her, I am still left with the desire to express it. The best way I know how to communicate it is with these images. These paintings are at once a meditation on the transience of the human experience as well as expressions of my deep gratitude to Blanca for pointing me in the right direction.
