Artist's Statement My new body of work is an examination of my relationships with sisters, friends, lovers. I am exploring the varying degrees of depth of these connections, using human figures, usually engaged with each other and animals. I use these animals to create a visual vocabulary of symbolism that aids the viewer in understanding the nature of the relationship. I am interested in the tension in these relationships; hands, faces, almost touching, but not quite, and the constant flux of a particular relationship, at very different stages of connection. Although this body of work developed out of my personal relationships, I believe that this exploration becomes universal, the desire to find something in oneself, in someone else. The search for a connection so close it is seamless.
